21st edition of Wielkopolska International Tennis Championship Talex Open 2020 has come to an end. The event in Poznań closed this year’s series of Lotos PZT Polish Tour 2020 - National Polish Cup.
Jan Zieliński and Kacper Żuk won the Saturday’s final of the double game. Last year's Polish champions won the third ITF title this year. Zieliński finished his excellent doubles in the LOTOS PZT Polish Tour series with a great success - after a difficult start he won six consecutive tournaments.
Kacper Żuk defeated Bulgarian Dimitar Kuzmanov (ATP 318), who triumphed on the courts of Poznan two years ago, 7:6(6), 6:1 in the Sunday single game final. Thus, our current Polish champion became a double winner of Talex Open 2020. Moreover, it should be added that Żuk won the Talex Open as the first Polish tennis player in 10 years.
The twenty-one year old can now add the fifth ITF title to an increasingly rich collection. After his successes in Gdańsk, Szczecin and Bytom, winning in Poznań also means the fourth singled trophy during the LOTOS PZT Polish Tour. This year’s winner, Kacper Żuk, got $3,600 and 20 points for the ATP ranking, due to which he should be promoted to the third 100 of the world ranking.
What is interesting about this year’s tournament and concerning Covid-19 is that Talex Open 2020 turned out to be:
· the only international tennis tournament played this year in Poland;
· the biggest tennis tournament played at that time in Europe;
· the fourth largest tennis tournament played at that time in the world;
· the only tennis tournament in Poland played for so long without a break (21 year in a row).
